A  Foodshed connects people-to-place-through-food.   It encompasses land and water; plants and animals; farmers and consumers; commerce and government.  It is revealed in the foods we grow; our recipes, our celebrations, our community feasts and farm markets.  It is shaped by our food traditions, our culture, and by our land ethic.

NEW foodshed is a coalition of many individuals and groups that support farmer-food-consumer projects.  We support many local organizations in their work toward a mutual goal;

Goal: grow quality, sustainable  food from this region to feed our own communities and tables.

For our own health, for good land stewardship, for prosperity and for food security, Northeast Wisconsin must retain its ability to grow wholesome foods in ways that do not threaten our resources.  The relationship between the food we eat, the land, and the person who grew or prepared and the eater is diminished and tenuous.     A key to a healthy foodshed is to reconnect consumers with farmers.

·         We connect consumers with producers of sustainably grown food and fiber products in Northeast Wisconsin

·         We help increase demand for local goods produced in a sustainable manner through consumer education.

·         We coordinate efforts and share funding resources among regional groups who have a stake in the preservation and enhancement of the foodshed.
